You may have noticed that Annie’s doesn’t just make chocolates! We found that during the summer, chocolate sales slowed (no one wants melty chocs!) so a couple of years ago we decided to look at making cakes for our local customers. We started with a Lemon Drizzle Cake and now have several different cakes, scones cookies – and Afternoon Teas!
We know it’s difficult to find vegan products in rural areas – for most of us on the Lincolnshire Wolds, we have to travel to Lincoln, Boston, Skegness or Grimsby to find a bigger selection. So there was definitely an opportunity for us to fill the gap. Our cakes can now be delivered within around 45 mins of our workshop in Horncastle for a nominal fee, choose from Lemon Drizzle, Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake, Victoria Sponge, and Coffee and Walnut – as well as home baked scones. And from here, it was a logical jump to offer Afternoon Tea packages that you can enjoy at home, or take on a picnic.
Our ingredients – where possible – are bought locally and we make the most of small independent traders too. All our fresh produce eg the carrots and lemons in the cakes, and the salad and veggies in our afternoon teas, are bought from Horncastle Fruit and Veg – the flour, sugar etc comes from Spill The Beans in Louth – who supported us throughout lockdown so we could send out our cake kits. Buying local means establishing a rapport with other businesses which in turn leads to a good working relationship with give and take. And we think that strawberries that are locally grown makes them taste better too!
If you would like to order any of our baked goods, or an Afternoon Tea package, just leave a message on our Facebook page, use the contact form or email us – info@anniestreats.co.uk Whatever it is you are looking for, let us know and we will see how we can help.
